A couple of years ago I got really into the writing of Brian Tracy. If you haven’t heard of Brian Tracy, he doesn’t live on Tracy island or drive one of the Thunderbirds (showing my age there!).
Tracy is a writer and business expert and he attributes his success in life to being able to set and stick to one thing:
Goals.
I’ve found that idea really helpful. I have a tendency to chase the ‘shiny penny’ of new ideas or new projects when I should be more focused and determined on one or two things. I’ve spread myself too thin before and paid the price with my health.
So around a year ago, I sat down with a notebook (jokes obvs, it was an AI chatbot) and worked out what my main goals were across different categories such as:
Career
Family
Faith
I worked out 10 year, five year and 1 year goals along those lines and saved that in a Google Doc. Now, when I feel like I’m chasing too many things, I centre back to that document and those main goals while asking myself this one question:
“Does (this think that I’m doing) get me closer to my goals.”
If it doesn’t, I don’t do it. Sounds simple right? But it does take discipline.

P.S. Brian Tracy has written loads of books. Here’s a link to one that you might like. Let me know how you get on.
This is a new section where I recommend a newsletter that I’ve really been enjoying. This week it’s The Daily Dividend which is exactly what you might think - a daily email about dividend stocks.
